A look at the LEGO hobby – Niki’s presentation to the Womens Institute
Brick Alley members Niki and Barbara recently presented their LEGO hobby to members of the Kirkby-in-Ashfield WI.
Niki spoke about her Lego journey – from building as a child, to 40 years later. It was lovely to hear from lots of the members about their own Lego stories – we had several secret collectors, and a few shared memories of building with their children, grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Niki says “it was a good laugh – especially when we talked about the difference between Barbara’s and my way of working – her being very organised and me quite chaotic. She organises by parts, me by occasionally sifting by size.” And of course, at Brick Alley we accept members of any organisational persuasion!

Barbara talked to them about me getting her into the hobby last year and how she finds the LEGO hobby mindful – there is a peace of mind that comes when you are focused on building or sorting LEGO! The main focus of the talk was the Power of Play, especially for mental health and in supporting prevention/delay of cognitive decline.
It’s great to see Brick Alley members sharing their love of the hobby with others!
